Director. Gabriel Beristain was born into a theatrical dynasty. His father, Luis Beristain, was a renowned leading man of the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema. After he establishes himself in England, The Berlin Film Festival awarded a Silver Bear to ‘outstanding single achievement in cinematography and visual style’ to his work on “Caravaggio” (dir: Derek Jarman) A long and fruitful period in the UK is followed by shooting “K-2” in Canada and Pakistan and creating cult classics in the U.S. like “Blood In, Blood Out” and “Dolores Claiborne.”

His presence in Hollywood energized and guided the work of filmmakers like Guillermo Del Toro (Blade 2), David Mamet (The Spanish Prisoner), Hideo Nakata (The Ring 2), David Ayer (Street Kings), and David Goyer (The Invisible), among others.

His credits also include hundreds of commercials and music videos for legendary super bands like “Aerosmith” (Crazy, Crying, Amazing) Bon Jovi (Always, Lie to Me) and Snow Patrol (You’re all I Have) Marvel Studios trusted him with the reshoots of almost every movie release from the first “Iron Man” all the way to “Guardians of the Galaxy.”

In television, he worked for Channel Four and directed an episode of the documentary series ‘Hidden Empire’ for the BBC. In the U.S. he shot the vibrant pilot of “Hawaii 5-0,” crafted a grand motion picture imagery for Starz’ “Magic City,” helped set Guillermo Del Toro’s style in “The Strain,” and expanded on the elegant period look of Marvel’s “Agent Carter,” having created the look of the original Marvel short that inspired the series.

His several projects in development as producer/director, include “Tina,” starring Bertolucci’s newest muse, Tea Falco, and “Havana Empire” to be shot entirely in Cuba.

Gabriel is member of Vedado Films, a Cuba-based production service company, ready to serve filmmakers who want to bring their productions to this breathtaking and magical island. Besides his ASC and BSC membership, Gabriel is also a member of AMC, AMPAS, and BAFTA LA, and lives in Los Angeles with his photographer wife Elizabeth and their children, Max and Victoria.
